Bookstore Closed - Website Closed. It Was Fun, But I'm Done.
Before placing your order, you should know:
There is no one perfect rule for mailing books to those in prison. Each prison system and county jail has set its own regulations for inmate books, magazines etc. To successfully buy publications for inmates, family and friends need to understand several kinds of regulations and limitations.
GREAT CARE is needed to order publications that inmates will be allowed to receive.
When placing an order on a website put the ID number in the same space as the last name.
Classification Matters: Some prison systems have regulations based on the security classification, and occasionally the specific unit type. Security classification can determine how many, what kind and from whom books can be received and what can be retained.
The list and wording of bad content vary from prison to prison. Examples: criminal content, gang content, content deemed a risk to prison/inmate security, maps of local areas, wilderness survival, drug manufacture, descriptions of gun or bomb making, descriptions of prison escape, locksmithing, various types of sexual content (rape, sodomy, S&M, necrophilia, bestiality, statutory rape, incest, etc.) racially negative words or content. Tattoo publications are denied in some correctional facilities, while coloring books or puzzles in others where they must be purchased from the commissary. Publications are denied for sexual imagery, diagrams of guns, bombs etc. Read your state or jail facilities website for specific information. Books accepted in one place may be denied in another.
In MANY cases, the regulations posted on the internet for a prison system or jail are NOT complete nor accurate. A call to the prison or jail mail room can often result in good information.
These are some common descriptions used that limit what kind of business can ship:
PLACING YOUR ORDER
I do not recommend ordering used books online for Texas, TDCJ, or other states that have rules against stickers on mail or books. It is very common for used books to have stickers from one or more stores.
Unless a bookstore from specific list of vendors is required, Powells Books, Target.Com, Barns & Nobel are all good choices for new book shopping.
DO NOT USE express checkouts like Paypal without EXTREEM caution. You can be pushed right past providing any shipping information at all, and the books will go to you. Large companies may not respond to address correction requests like I did.
If ordering from a company that uses only Fed Ex or UPS (like Amazon)
Non USPS packages can be delivered to a PO Box Address by using the POST OFFICE'S street address and the box number as just a number:
I cannot guarantee that the facility will accept this if there is a USPS regulation.
EXAMPLE: you could mail to my PO Box 688, Dickinson, TX 77539 as
IMailToPrison.Com
2515 Termini Street # 668
Dickinson, TX 77539
I loved helping guys (and gals) and the families and friends with books for the past 40 years or so. Sadly, I just cant make a living doing this any longer.
Best of luck to you, and those you love.

Inmates will only receive publications that are addressed correctly with the correct name, ID# and mailing address.
State and Federal Prison Inmates:
Prison systems will have a link on their web page, something like “Inmate Lookup” or “Find an Offender”
County Jail Inmates:
First, find the main website for that county. There should be a directory of departments or some other link to the Sheriff or the Jail. Jail’s websites will almost always have a directory of inmates which includes the required ID number.
A direct search for the county jail will most often result in many listings of service sites with general information, not specific to your inmate. Look for the site controlled by that specific county
Also try: VINElink.Com
The Victim Information and Notification Everyday network. Most, but not all, prisons and jails post to V.I.N.E: inmate ID numbers, location, and charges, making it possible to locate needed id numbers just knowing the inmate's name. Often a link to the jail or prison is there too. You may need to register on V.I.N.E. to get all needed info. V.I.N.E. does not spam you. (Texas, TDCJ, info found here: TDCJ.Texas, and is not on V.I.N.E.)
FYI: Some “jails” are state prisons or are combined state and local lockups. Also, a state inmate that is temporarily at a county jail will only be allowed publications based on that jail’s regulations.
2. Mailing Address:
Facility addresses can be found on the Federal Bureau of Prisons, each state’s department of corrections website, County Jail addresses on the County Jail website (Note: this is rarely the county court house website, a common mistake)
Facilities often have multiple addresses:
WARNING! : Prisons are weird, jails are weirder. Learn rules that may apply to your Loved One.
